Music

on Thursday, March 31, 2016
One of the things I try to enforce as a writer (that I learned from LTUE and that I hope my "A Day in the Life of..." guest series has taught) is that there is no one way to be a writer. Everyone has different writing schedules and different distractions, just like how everyone has different ways to inspire themselves.
For me, I have to listen to music. Now, I know a lot of authors cannot listen to music while writing. Some have tv or movies on in the background, and some need absolute silence. But I need music to write. I can't write in silence, and tv is usually too distracting.

It's Monday! Whoo! You know what that means? Another guest! Hooray! Today's guest is *drumroll* Steven Partridge!

Thanks so much for having me, Allie. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a writer/blogger with a propensity for blending genres in my writing.

A Few Things...

on Thursday, March 24, 2016
I've been having a really rough week full of migraines. I was totally feeling great. Yesterday. Then, once again, I didn't sleep and now I find myself laying on the couch in my pajamas because I can barely stand up. Luckily, I have an adorable puppy to take care of me when I can't take care of myself.

A Day in the Life of...Ronna Jojola!

It's Monday! That means it's time for another guest! Today's guest is *drumroll* Ronna Jojola!

My days typically begin at 5:00am. Except lately my typical day has been starting at exactly 4:15 each morning. A month or so ago a chicken moved into our back yard. We have no idea where it came from. We don’t exactly live in chicken raising country (not that know what that is, I just know it’s not in my back yard). We live right in the middle of one of the most urban areas in the country. The closest I ever get to a farm is the farmers market on Saturdays. So the chicken was a bit of a novel idea.

Why Frozen Should Be Forgotten

on Thursday, March 17, 2016
Those of you who know me, know that I LOVE Disney. I love Disneyland and I love Disney movies. I have a collection of Disney shirts and pants from the parks. My dad worked at Walt Disney Imagineering for 3 1/2 years working on this "secret project"-

And he's worked for them before building animatronics for the rides. You may recognize these can-canning birds from Splash Mountain (in Florida).

Free Write #9

on Thursday, March 10, 2016
I forgot to blog yesterday because I was busy doing a million and a half other things like eating cereal with sour milk and forgetting to turn on the washing machine when I put in laundry. Yeah. That about sums it up.
So today I'm going to do a quick free write thanks to my wonderful Writing Prompts Pinterest board! Yay! I love Pinterest!
I'm once again using bits and pieces of my next project "A Fairy's Tale" to try and spark some ideas as I try to plot out the end of the story. Deamonne is a temporary term, but the more I use it, the more it grows on me.
    Here's the prompt-

"You want me to kill him?" He raised an eyebrow.

10-ish Things About the Brain by Danny Potter

on Thursday, March 3, 2016
As I mentioned last week, my favorite LTUE panel was "Things About the Brain that Every Writer Should Know" by Danny Potter. Turns out, someone recorded that panel and now it's on Youtube!!!

Yay! Now I can share the whole thing with you guys! Seriously, it was AMAZING. It may be 50 minutes long, but it is worth the long time. In case you need some motivation to watch/listen to the whole thing, I'll summarize some of my favorite points for you.
Our minds are always making connections. We are associational learners. For example- All chairs are different, yet whenever we see a chair we understand what it is. We don't have to relearn what a chair is every time we encounter a new one.
